Notre Dame has advanced to in the BEC Tournament to play West Virginia on Saturday at Noon (EST) which will be broadcast live back in South Bend on WHME (103.1FM). ND (3-1 in tournament) and WV (3-0 in tournament) are the last remaining teams, so the Irish must beat WV twice Saturday in order to capture the BEC Tournament Championship and earn the automatic bid to the NCAA regionals.
BEC UPDATE: The Irish won the first game with WV 5-2, but came up short in the second game, losing 7-4. The Irish must now sit by the TV Monday and watch ESPN at 3pm (EDT) to see if they get an at-large bid to the NCAA regionals.
NCAA UPDATE: The Irish got an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, being assigned to the South Regional in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Notre Dame was seeded #5 and their first game was against #2 seed Virginia, who they beat 12-1 on Thursday. On Friday, the Irish played Stetson, losing 6-7. ND was up 6-1 after 6 innings, when Dan Stavisky gave up a 3 run homer, which led to the appearance of reliever Pat Davis, who also gave up a homerun. Stetson tied, then went ahead fo the Irish in the eighth, while holding ND scoreless. Up next for the Irish are the Virginia Cavaliers.
