Bicycling

Why Ride?

I have loved to ride bicycles ever since I was a little kid in sunny California. It was my main mode of transportation until we moved to a rural area in Kansas and school was too far for commuting. In college, I caught the bug again, and started commuting to school/work as weather permitted, and even sometimes when it didn't ;^) My commuting miles have steadily gone down over the years as I have become responsible for additional child transportation. The past year (1995) saw very limited bike riding for me, and this year is off to a slow start as well, but I'm hopeful for a return to the higher mileage of years past in short order. My number one reason for riding is exercise and stress relief, I'm not making a political or ecological statement. I love to drive cars, and don't forsee a time when I won't own a car.

Our bikes

I ride a 1992 Bridgestone RB-1 for recreational riding and a 1991 Diamond Back Override for my commuting, which I share with my wife. My wife and I are similar in height, my height being in the trunk with short legs, and her's just the opposite, but the DB is a good fit for both of us. I also have an old Motobecane that has seen better days, but I keep it around for sentimental reasons. It got me through college and our year in Belgium, where we went carless for the entire time we were there. My wife rides her 1993 Bridgestone RB-1 most of the time. We have a Burley trailer that has been a great source of fun for the boys. It is great fun to go for a ride with the boys, but it is a bit cramped for the oldest, so a change is in the near future if we want to continue road riding as a family. Our two older boys each have bikes, and the oldest may get his training wheels taken off this summer. Some of my favorite bike related sites
